Frequently Asked Questions

We get it — insurance can be a lot to wrap your head around. Our FAQs cover the things riders often ask us, so you can spend less time searching and more time riding.

For every rider

What is the difference between Agreed Value and Market Value?

Agreed Value means you are insured for that set sum insured, in the event of a total loss. Market Value means, in the event of a total loss you will be paid out, the current market value of your motorcycle prior to the incident and taking into consideration the motorcycle’s make, model, age, general condition and any accessories and enhancements and kilometres travelled immediately prior to the incident.

How do I obtain an Agreed Value?

By contacting our customer service team and having a discussion and coming to a mutual agreement on a value amount which could involve paying an extra premium.

Please refer to the link below for contact options.

Can accessories be added to my motorcycle?

Accessories can be added to your insurance policy at any time. Any accessories must be advised to us and noted on your Certificate of Insurance. This will ensure coverage and replacement in the event of a claimable event where damage is sustained to these items.

What is lay-up?

Lay-up changes the cover for Your Motorcycle under the Policy, it is restricted to loss or damage occurring while Your Motorcycle is within the gates, walls, or fences of Your home address as specified on Your Certificate of Insurance, other than during the period midnight Friday night to midnight on the next Sunday night (these times and days are those which are applicable at the home address). This restriction gives You a discounted premium and only applies during the Lay Up Cover period specified on the Certificate of Insurance.

Can anyone ride my motorcycle?

Your insurance policy will provide coverage for your motorcycle to be ridden by anyone you provide permission to.

No change is required to your insurance policy and no extra premium will be charged. Anyone who becomes a regular rider during the period of insurance, should be noted to your insurance policy by contacting our customer service team via the below link.

National Motorcycle Magazine

What is National Motorcycle Magazine?

National Motorcycle Magazine is our new, 80-page magazine created for riders in the National Motorcycle Insurance community. Each edition includes a mix of on-road and off-road riding stories, accessories and tyre features, industry profiles, safety and maintenance tips, plus the latest bike reviews and gear.

Why have I received a copy of the magazine?

You’re receiving a complimentary copy as a thank you for supporting National Motorcycle Insurance. We’ve selected a portion of our existing policy holders to receive the magazine as a small way of giving back to the riding community that supports us.

Do I have to pay for the magazine?

No. For the initial editions, the magazine is complimentary for selected National Motorcycle Insurance policy holders. There is nothing extra to pay for these copies.

How often will the magazine be published?

The magazine will be published four times a year (summer, autumn, winter and spring editions) with content that reflects the breadth of our riding community – on-road, off-road, adventure, commuting and everything in between.

Will you always send it for free?

For the next few editions, the magazine will be sent out on a complimentary basis. From some time in 2026, we expect to invite existing policy holders to subscribe. At that point, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to take up a paid subscription or not.

Will my policy change if I do or don’t subscribe?

No. Your insurance cover and premiums are not affected by whether you receive or subscribe to the magazine. The magazine is an extra way for us to share stories, tips and information with riders – it doesn’t change your policy terms and conditions.

I don’t want to receive the magazine – how do I opt out?

No problem. If you’d like to be added to our “do not send” list for the magazine, please email marketing@nminsurance.com.au with your name and policy number, and let us know you’d like to opt out.

I am a National Motorcycle Insurance policy holder and would like a complimentary copy. Can I request one?

Yes. If you hold a current National Motorcycle Insurance policy and would like to receive a complimentary copy (while they are available), please email marketing@nminsurance.com.au and include your name, postal address and policy number. We’ll do our best to include you in the upcoming mailout.

How did you get my postal details for the magazine?

We’ve used the contact details linked to your National Motorcycle Insurance policy. These are the same details we use for policy documents and important communications.

What kind of content will be included?

Each edition will feature a cross-section of stories and information for riders, such as:

• Accessories, tyres and gear spotlights
